I’ve said before that I hate the massively overused rollercoaster analogy when it comes to having a career as an author, but I’m afraid that it’s so unbelievably perfect that I must bring it up here once again.
It must be fascinating to be published. How is the book doing? Who is reading it? What are they saying? I could never be depressed. I'd be too busy asking questions : )
Thank you Charlotte for this post, that humanises the novel writing process. I've downloaded your free ebook for debut authors. As I've started working on my first literary fiction novel, it's so timely for me, to have come across your SubStack!
I too, have wished that there was anything else I was meant to do instead. I feel like I’m destined for the creative world but at the same time like my brain just can’t hack the rejection it brings!
But oh the reward of your writing resonating with someone, or an illustration (in my case - I do that as well!) bringing joy to someone’s day.
I’m super early days and in a weird position where I’m job hunting as well, so your post has reminded me a bit that it’s probably not super helpful to put all my focus into this! Because it might destroy me 😂
And also that we all have many things that interest us, even if they aren’t the top TOP thing. Some of which involve less rejection, others more.
